When it comes to makeup, a lot of people think of it as an outlet for self-expression: it is not simply a way to look good, and a societally enforced requirement for women; but it is a way to create new stuff and experiment, with yourself and your face as the canvas. To a lot of us, makeup is closer to an art form…
And it is jarring, and surprising when the most popular and famous well-known brands we can find in stores are simple, plain, and boring. They usually have sleek packaging, minimalistic and elegant, that is almost indistinguishable from other brands and takes away a lot of the fun and excitement of makeup.
However, there are some brands that take themselves less seriously and minimize the “serious” facet of makeup to keep it fun, artistic, and creative even in their packaging. If you are a self-assured adult that doesn’t mind staying in touch with their fun, bubbly, childish side we would like to introduce you to some fun brands.
Too Faced is a sister brand to Estée Lauder, and unlike its sister brand, it doesn’t take itself seriously: while all their cosmetics are high quality and luxurious they add a fun dimension to make up that other brands have forgotten.
Not only is their packaging colorful and reminiscent of either a fairy tale or a bakery full of delicious sweets, but all their ingredients are natural and usually scented like something delicious: peaches, watermelon, chocolate, gingerbread… those are only some of the scents their habitual rooster includes. They are also against animal cruelty and their brand is fully vegan and does not test on animals.
Etude House is a Korean skincare and makeup brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously either: all its packaging is cute and colorful, and more often than not they are doing a fun collaboration where their makeup is themed: nail polish that looks like candy, eye palettes that look like chocolate bars…
They are better on your pocket too: as a brand marketed to teenagers and young adults their pricing is often on the cheaper side!
